Tamás Jakkel Január 6. · This post started with a huge win at the European Dogshow in Budapest, when I awarded the Best Veteran of the Day out of 60 Veteran European Winners in their respective breeds to a Pointer having not just a great breedtype and conformation in immaculate condition but with great personality. We went to the official foto corner afterward, where his breeder/owner was waiting for him., one of the best ones in the breed, Marianne Gyárfás(whose son handled the dog). I could see the emotions in her eyes. She came to me and talked about the „circle of life” mentioning that besides countless achievements of „Macho” both in the show rings, and in the field as a working dog, I was the first judge who awarded his first big title as my Junior Best in Show 8 years ago and now this crown in the stage of the European Show as the last one to date being Veteran. Many outsiders think that a showdog is only an emotionless winning machine without soul and a „real life”. Many millions (having show dogs at home) know their life is in a total contrary of this prejudice. As a matter of fact behind every wins there is a family, an owner who provides a happy life and the great spirit needed to be happy and in the perfect physical and mental condition what makes any dog being able to be successful. Look at these pictures what the owner sent me followed by our chatting! You can see how a (show)dog connected to the humans, sitting together „having a whiskey” , playing together and being a SOULMATE of his human partners. If you are lucky enough then you have a dog of such high quality what makes you able to show him/her in a dogshow. Nevertheless this is only a small fraction of his/her life even when very successful. Their real life is the precious time spent together with us establishing a bond unparalleled with any other human emotions. Breeders produce dogs NOT primarily to win but to give this sensation to other human beings! Nowadays there is a debate often coming up. What makes somebody a BREEDER, what separates them from a „puppy farmer”? Complex and not easy task. The number of the dogs being kept? The number of the litters produced? Some kind of official „registration”? Not possible to give a short answer, but mine is here: QUALITY (both the dogs and humans involved), PERSEVERANCE (what provides a real influence and impact) and RESPONSIBILITY (both toward the whole breed and every individual puppies produced started with the litter plans, using the most modern scientific methods to check the breeding stocks, providing a good, active environment with human contacts for the puppies with many stimulus around and CHOSING THE RIGHT NEW OWNERS for them!!!!). A „puppy farmer’s „ target is commercial, called money. A BREEDER’s goal is preserving history and improve quality. If (s)he does it well, nothing wrong with getting money, what will be majorly spent to produce the next generation! The history of Macho, his breeder is the best example what a BREEDER means all with capital letters. Chapeau. The judge had nothing else to do than serving the quality and YES, sometimes being emotional while doing so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTQhWdlNB_c
